TEC Launches GHS Hazard Communication Training Program in Response to New OSHA Standard

Troy, MI – April 10, 2013 – In response to OSHA’s decision to align with the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for the classification and labeling of chemicals, Testing Engineers & Consultants, Inc. (TEC) has developed a comprehensive training program to educate employers on how to comply with the new standard. As a result, workers will have better information available regarding the safe handling and use of hazardous chemicals, thereby allowing them to avoid injuries and illnesses caused by exposure to hazardous chemicals.

TEC’s program offers two training method options. The first option is having a certified trainer educate staff members in the labeling and Safety Data Sheet requirements of the HCS. The second option is the Hazard Communication Program design, review and implementation services. Included in this are “train-the-trainer” classes; on-site surveys; assistance with facility signage and labeling; and specially designed hazard communication programs based on the chemical hazards identified at the facility. In addition, TEC can review and update current Hazard Communication programs to incorporate the changes to the HCS.

The law requires that all companies comply with the new standard by training their employees on the new labeling elements and SDS format by December 1, 2013, so it’s important for employers to act now.
